MetRaZymes Doctoral Network aims to train the next generation of scientific and industrial leaders capable of tackling the design, development, and implementation of novel enzymatic reactions using a holistic approach. We offer our 13 Doctoral Candidates a comprehensive transferable skills training program delivered by five high-caliber training partners. Highlights of this program include a Nature Masterclass, Wikipedia and new media workshops, as well as industrial and entrepreneurial R&D workshops.
Training Workshops 1st Year:

The year 1 MetRaZymes training workshops including the “Ethical Challenges for Junior Scientists”, “Communicating Science, Presentation Skills and Body Language”, and the ” Nature Masterclass in Scientific Writing and Publishing” took place before and after the MetRaZymes first Annual Network Meeting on September 27th, October 2nd & 3rd, and October 4th & 5th 2023, respectively, hosted at TU Darmstadt, Lichtwiese Campus.
Training Workshops 2nd Year:

The year 2 MetRaZymes training workshops including “Wikipedia Workshop”, “Intellectual Property”, and the “Entrepreneurship” Workshops took place after the second Annual Network Meeting on June 6th & 7th, 2024, and June 10th to 12th, 2024, hosted at the University of Stuttgart, Vaihingen Campus.
MetRaZymes Winter School:

MetRaZymes winter school took place in Hirschegg (Austria) from March 16th to 21st, 2025. The aim of the winter school was to train the DCs on all the scientific aspects of biocatalyst development, thereby reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of MetRaZymes’ research. The Winter School intended to give the DC’s a solid knowledge foundation in all fields that are relevant for modern biocatalyst and polymer development, independent of which educational background the students have. The winter school consisted of lectures of the PIs as well as seminars and interactive workshops that were prepared by the DCs under guidance of the PIs. Moreover, the invited lectures of external scientists Prof. Francesco Molinari from the University of Milan, Dr. Amanda Jarvis from the University of Edinburgh and Dr. Maria Martini from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology gave insights into current research trends in biocatalysis.
Training Workshops 3rd Year:
The year 3 training workshops including the “Industrial R&D” and the “Interview training and preparation for job search” workshops took place in connection with the third-year Annual Meeting on September 15th, 16th, and 19th, 2025, respectively, hosted at the University of Strathclyde.

Future Training:
The last training workshop of MetRaZymes on Art and Science – ARTzymes will take place on November 6th and 7th in Vienna.
